Queenscliff Harbour Winter photography competition
We are inviting you to capture the winter months at Queenscliff Harbour with our CAPTURE Winter Photography competition.
No matter if you are down for a quick visit with just your phone camera or plan to stay longer to get the perfect shot on your DSLR, you could win a prize to cheer away the winter blues.
Here is your chance to be a winner with a cash prize for our first-place winner as well as vouchers for our runner up and 3 rd place.
We also have an opportunity for all school aged kids to join the competition with a prize of $300 and a gift voucher for a Sea All Dolphin Swims sightseeing tour going to the best student photographer.
Rules
- All entries are to be the original work of the entrant and must have been taken at Queenscliff Harbour.
- A limit of three (3) images per individual will be accepted. Each entry will be judged individually.
- Photographs can be taken in any style or format (black and white or colour).
- The entrant is deemed to have accepted sole responsibility for ensuring that the work submitted does not infringe on any relevant copyright.
- All entries are to be available for reproduction and/or publication by Queenscliff Harbour with copyright being retained by the photographer.
- Successful images printed for the purposes of the competition will not be for sale. All printed and mounted images remain the property of Queenscliff Harbour
- The competition is open to the public. Queenscliff Harbour Pty Ltd (QHPL) staff connected to the judging process are not permitted to enter.
- QHPL reserves the right to not include all images in the competition and exhibition. Photos deemed inappropriate will not be included.
- Only photographs taken from areas accessible to the public will be considered for an award.
- Entrants to the student competition need to be under the age of 18 years and be able to provide proof of age if necessary. We also ask that entrants to the student competition include their guardians’ details in the email of submission.
Judging Criteria
- Independent judges will select a winner, runner-up and 3 rd Place in the open category. They will also select one winner in the student category.
- QHPL reserves the right to select the final 80 to 100 images to be considered for the competition and exhibition.
- Judging will take place prior to the Winners Announcement on the 13 th of September
Judges will consider the following criteria of each image:
- technical (exposure; depth of field; colour or tonal rendition; contrast; and lighting)
- visual and aesthetic appeal
- content (mood; emotion; relevance; subject; impact)
- general characteristics (originality; style; context; photographic vision)
- The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
How to submit entries
- Entries in the 2024 Queenscliff Harbour Capture Winter Photography Competition will be accepted via Instagram through the hashtag qhcapturewinter and via email to [email protected].
- Images sent through email will be posted to the Queenscliff Harbour Instagram with acknowledgement of original photographer.
- If this is an issue, please contact the Harbour Office on 5258 5459 to discuss options.
- Smartphone images must be supplied at ‘Actual Size’.
- Digital Camera images must be of high-resolution. Minimum file size 1MB maximum file size 12MB.
- Entries open on 15th of July 2024
- Entries close on 31 st of August 2024
- Entrants must follow the following file name protocol when sending images via email: ENTRANT’S FIRST INITIAL_ENTRANT’S SURNAME_IMAGE TITLE.
Example: Q_HARBOUR_’WINTER FUN’ - Entrants to the Student competition must include their guardians’ details in the email as well.

[email protected] or on 5258 5459 - Entrants using Instagram to submit their images must tag Queenscliff Harbour and include the hashtag #QHcapturewinter and the image title in the caption.
