Along the theme of ‘Retail Therapy’, artworks created by artists from the Participate Karingal program, the Borough of Queenscliffe 2017 Artists in Residence, will be on show in shop windows and venues throughout Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale during April.
We encourage people to grab a guide map highlighting the locations of each artwork and journey across the borough to discover the artistic gems sprinkled through the local retail precincts. Maps will be available at the Queenscliff Visitor Information Centre from April 2nd when art pieces go on show or download your MAP HERE
Participate Karingal is an arts program that supports artists with disabilities, promotes their work and advocates for their inclusion within contemporary art practice.
There are 16 artists involved in the 2016-2017 Borough of Queenscliffe Residency. Each artist under the theme of ‘Retail Therapy’ is, in their own artistic style creating a head sculpture.
Supplementing the exhibit, a free community workshop, is offered on Saturday 8 April at the Queenscliffe Neighbourhood House, 3 Tobin Drive, Queenscliff, from 11.00am to 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome, no need to make a booking.
The workshop, titled ‘from Estuary to Sea’, will explore the link between Swan Bay and the open sea.
Interested people are invited to drop in and create an ocean creature to be included in a group artwork that will go on display at the Queenscliff Library.
In addition this artwork will feature in the limited edition of an artists book that will be produced as part of the Residency and placed in the collections of the State Library of Victoria, the National Library of Australia in Canberra, the University at Buffalo in the USA, and the University of the West of England Bristol and Plymouth University in the UK.
For more information about the community workshop or the Artist in Residency program call the Borough’s Arts Access Officer, Leanne Stein, on 5258 1377.
